Getting Started with Volunteering

Volunteering is a central part of the Medical Explorer experience. It is where training becomes real, where skills are practiced, and where students begin to understand what it means to serve in a healthcare environment.

You are encouraged to begin volunteering early in your time with the program. While some opportunities require completed training, many do not. Getting involved early allows you to build experience, develop confidence, and begin contributing to the program and the community.

Before You Complete Training

Don't wait. Volunteer quickly at the beginning of the semester in non-medical opportunities and consider one of the area hospitals. Start at the bottom as a hospital volunyeer. More exciting opportunities will come.

Volunteering During Training

You're gaining in skills and becoming more valuable by the class.

Continue with the non-medical volunteer opportunities. Build your resume and network.

Seek the advice of our senior advisors. There are many opportunities that can have a relation to your future careers.

Keep an eye on variety.

After You Complete Level One Training

Now you're ready to do some serious medical volunteering. But there's much more specialized training. Ask about what's next. There are many different paths and they're all valuable volunteer opportunities.
