Omega Leo Medical Explorer Post 4077 is a long-standing volunteer medical organization within the Texas State University College of Science and Engineering. Since its founding in 1991 by the university President Supple, the program has focused on giving students meaningful, real-world exposure to healthcare through a combination of training, service, and mentorship. Our program is unmatched.
Our Mission
To prepare the next generation of compassionate healthcare professionals who have a strong commitment to service, responsibility, and lifelong learning.
What Makes This Program Different
Unlike many traditional student organizations, this program is structured around active participation and accountability. Students are expected to engage, train, and contribute through volunteer community service—not just attend meetings.
This structure allows students to move beyond passive learning and develop real skills and experiences that translate directly into healthcare environments.
Medical Explorers have a "heart and duty" for community service.

More of What Makes This Program Different
It's a program that requires you to be well trained in many skills not commonly taught outside of Professional Academic programs. Medical Explorers are expected to then use their skills in community service.
The benefits are to have opportunities not commonly available to pre-service students. Doors open for Medical Explorers.
Our Approach
Healthcare today presents challenges that didn’t exist in the past, such as limited shadowing access, increased regulation, and greater demands on providers.
Our program addresses these challenges by offering a structured pathway that includes:
- Foundational training before deployment as a volunteer
- Supervised, real-world volunteer opportunities
- Ongoing mentorship and guidance
This approach helps students gain experience responsibly while also respecting the realities of modern healthcare systems.
Our Partners
We partner with organizations such as Scouting America, Lions Clubs International, and community healthcare providers to create meaningful training and service opportunities for our members.
Our History
The program was established under the vision of President Jerry Supple, who believed students needed more than classroom learning to prepare for complex careers.
That vision remains central today. We provide students with experiences that are meaningful, practical, and not easily found elsewhere.
