Equipment and Supply Donations
Medical Explorers maintain emergency response bags stocked with essential first-aid supplies. Each kit contains approximately $1,500 worth of materials designed to handle a wide range of situations. And, since we have multiple volunteer obligations some days on the same day, we must have six of these bags to devote to all our crews that my be deployed on the same day.
Students are trained in the proper use of every item they carry, ensuring that equipment is used safely and effectively in real-world scenarios.
The program also maintains its own Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) so they are immediately available when needed during events and service activities. Thes AEDs are typcially over $1,500 each.
You may remember that some Medical Explorers are fully certified EMT-Basics and CPR instructors at professional levels. We're more than just simple first-aid providers. Thus, our crews always have their own AEDs and are prepared to use them. In a similar manner, our crews are flly trained in Stop the Bleed (trauma bleeding) and many are already instructors in this important skill.
We are grateful for the continued support of organizations like Central Texas Lions Clubs, whose contributions have helped provide much of the equipment and supplies used by our students.
Accepting Donations
We welcome donations of medical supplies and equipment from individuals, families, and healthcare professionals.
Examples of accepted items include:
- First-aid supplies and medical materials
- Emergency response equipment
- Mobility equipment such as wheelchairs
If a donated item cannot be used directly by our program, we work to place it with another organization or individual who can benefit from it.
Supporting Special Programs
Donated equipment also supports outreach efforts such as the Sunshine Kids pediatric cancer program. Each year, Medical Explorers provide wheelchairs for children traveling to San Marcos for the Texas Hill Country Adventure.
Any additional equipment beyond program needs is shared with others in the community.
