The College of Science and Engineering traces its roots to 1966, when the School of Science was established with four departments—Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics—under founding Dean W. E. (Henry) Norris.

Over the following decades, the college expanded its disciplinary reach, adding Computer Science in 1986, launching engineering programs beginning in 1999, and adding Agricultural Sciences in 2024.

The School of Science became the College of Science around 1999 and, with the establishment of the Ingram School of Engineering, evolved into the College of Science and Engineering in 2012.

Major facilities such as the R. F. Mitte Building (2003) and Bruce and Gloria Ingram Hall (2018) signaled a new era of growth in teaching and research capacity.

Today CoSE is the university’s largest college by enrollment and plays a central role in Texas State’s Run to R1, with research expenditures at record levels and a growing portfolio of doctoral programs.

Throughout these 60 years, the college has remained committed to student success, especially through undergraduate research and a commitment to graduate studies.

Looking ahead to its next decade, CoSE is poised to deepen its research impact while continuing to nurture the next generation of scientists and engineers.
