3rd Academic Suspension

Understanding Your Suspension

You may no longer attend Texas State.

If you want to return to TXST in any future semester, you must:

  • Submit an academic suspension appeal. Appeals should only be submitted if you have extenuating circumstances that affected your academic performance.
  • To appeal, you must:

    1. Submit the online academic suspension appeal form. Be sure to provide justification and documentation for your appeal.
    2. Schedule an appeal appointment with the College of Science and Engineering Associate Dean by calling 512-245-2119. Appointments will be held via Zoom. Deadlines for appointments:
      1. May 21, 2025 for students who wish to take Summer 2025 classes
      2.  August 8, 2025 for students who wish to take Fall 2025 classes.

Filing an appeal does not guarantee reinstatement.

    • If your appeal is approved, you may enroll in Summer and/or Fall 2025 courses and your status will be academic warning. If you do not return to good standing after your next long semester (fall or spring), you will be placed on academic probation.
    • If your appeal is denied (or you choose not to appeal), you will not be allowed to enroll in courses for Summer 2025 and later. If you have already registered, your classes will be dropped after the appeal deadline.
  • According to Texas State’s policy:

“Students on Academic Probation who fail to reach a cumulative Texas State GPA of at least 2.00 or to earn a semester GPA at Texas State of at least 2.25 are placed on Academic Suspension.  Suspended students are prohibited from enrolling at Texas State indefinitely if suspended for a third or more time.

Students with extenuating circumstances may appeal for reinstatement to the appropriate college dean or institutional official, who may impose conditions regarding course load limits, required academic success programs, additional support services, etc.”
