Understanding Your Suspension
You are not able to attend TXST in the Fall 2026 semester, unless you successfully complete one of the options below.
If you want to return to TXST in the Fall 2026 semester, you must:
- Submit an academic suspension appeal by the deadline. Appeals should only be submitted if you have extenuating circumstances that affected your academic performance.
-
How to appeal your suspension
To appeal, you must:
- Submit the online academic suspension appeal form. Be sure to provide justification and documentation for your appeal.
- Schedule an appeal appointment with the College of Science and Engineering Associate Dean by calling 512-245-2119.
- Appointments will be held via Zoom and must take place by July 30, 2026.
Filing an appeal does not guarantee reinstatement.
-
What happens next?
- If your appeal is approved, you may enroll in courses for the upcoming semester and your status will be academic warning. If you do not return to good standing after your next long semester (fall or spring), you will be placed on academic probation.
- If your appeal is denied (or you choose not to appeal), you will not be allowed to enroll in courses for upcoming semester. If you have already registered, your classes will be dropped after the appeal deadline.
If you wish to return to TXST after the upcoming semester, you will need to reapply as a returning student and meet the readmission requirements, which can be found on the Undergraduate Admissions website.

The official policy
According to Texas State’s policy:
“Students on Academic Probation who fail to reach a cumulative Texas State GPA of at least 2.00 or to earn a semester GPA at Texas State of at least 2.25 are placed on Academic Suspension. Suspended students are prohibited from enrolling at Texas State for a duration of one semester if suspended for the first time.
Students with extenuating circumstances may appeal for reinstatement to the appropriate college dean or institutional official, who may impose conditions regarding course load limits, required academic success programs, additional support services, etc.” -
Special note for students suspended after Spring grades
Students placed on first suspension at the end of the spring semester are permitted to enroll in summer courses at Texas State without special permission.
- To be automatically allowed to continue taking courses at Texas State in the follwing Fall semester (or, “automatically reinstated” by returning to Good Academic Standing), students must raise their cumulative Texas State GPA to at least 2.00 to return to Good Academic Standing.
- Students who do not raise their Texas State cumulative GPA to 2.00 by the end of the summer term will have two options:
- Appeal their Fall academic suspension by the deadline.
or - Sit out the Fall semester. Reapply for the Spring (or later) semester to restart at Texas State.
- Appeal their Fall academic suspension by the deadline.
